The best bit about writing for children’s television is when my name flashes up at the beginning of an episode and my three kids cheer. Suddenly the long lonely hours spent headbutting my keyboard all seem worthwhile and for a brief moment I’m a hero. Of course they would prefer it if I was a firefighter but hey you can’t have everything. As far as I’m concerned I’ve got the best job in the world. I’m a time traveller. Every day I get to go back to when I was a kid and write stories from a child’s point of view. I get a second chance to see the world anew and share that experience with others. I often find myself asking ,”Why do adults behave the way they do?” and most of the time I can’t come up with a sensible explanation. It’s important we keep telling stories from a child’s point of view and maintain a spirit of discovery and wonder at the world.
